“Tools For Today” Program

Help us improve the lives of People Living with Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s Disease (PD) typically occurs late in life and without prior indication. There is no time to prepare for symptoms that frequently appear overnight. People Living with Parkinson’s Disease (PLPD) are often unprepared to handle the rapid changes that occur once symptoms appear without the tools necessary to improve the very outcome of their lives.

PD devastates and traumatizes those within our own communities. Every week we watch as another life is claimed by the falling, fainting and stumbling caused by this disease. Sufferers of PD often become hopeless – simply because they do not know how to respond to the changes taking place in their bodies.

The more a person with PD falls, slips and stumbles, the more normal it seems. This is dangerous on many levels! PLPD often give up in despair, leading lives of isolationism, confusion and depression.

Over the years, we have sadly witnessed spouses of PLPD struggling alone, barely coping with the ravages of this disease. Friends and family members want to help, but they do not know what to do.

They need our help.

Without proper support, resources and education, the sudden onset of symptoms have a devastating effect on PLPD, their families and caregivers. They critically need effective daily living skills (DLS).

Predominantly, the only hope PLPD are given by the media and medical community is finding a cure – in the future – meanwhile, hopelessly living with the progression of the disease. We focus on what the PLPD community desperately needs NOW – improving physical health and emotional wellbeing – by teaching the tools necessary to live a quality life.

With the help of generous supporters, our Outreach Care and Education Program can reach those most in need. We provide these services:

  • Trained, non-medical care providers who provide individualized coping techniques in a program that evolves as the disease progresses
  • Counselors, Massage and Physical Therapists
  • In-home care for those whose greatest challenge is just getting through the day

With adequate funding, we can provide low-cost / no-cost, in-home, adaptive training to PLPD and the families who desperately need support.

We help PLPD live safer, more rewarding lives.
